FC Peterborough 2-1 Biggleswade United
Initial Thoughts
We knew this would be a challenging night, and FCP didn’t disappoint, putting on a fantastic cup performance for the Green Army, visiting fans, and special guests from the Hinchingbrooke committee. Though some may not have expected such a tough contest, Biggleswade United came ready to play, bringing energy, speed, and strength to the game. Yet, FCP rose to the occasion, showing not only the skill and confidence to match their higher-league opponents but, under the floodlights and occasional fireworks, surpassing them.
The Green Army played a huge part, particularly in the second half. Coach Shaz praised their vocal support, which helped FCP push through the final stages to secure victory.
Early Fireworks
The game’s tone was set from the first minute when Vitor made an ambitious 25-yard pass to Ruben, only for the opposition full-back to intercept. Moments later, both players pressed hard, leading to Vitor breaking into the box and sending a cross to Derick, who was unmarked at the far post. Though it seemed like a certain goal, the opposition keeper made a superb double save to keep FCP at bay.
Biggleswade quickly hit back with a close attempt of their own, striking the post with a curling shot that echoed their intent. In the 8th minute, Ruben tested the keeper with a right-footed shot from distance, which was collected comfortably.
Knocking on the Door
By the 16th minute, FCP’s build-up play was shining. Zahid, Ayman, Vitor, and Micky combined seamlessly, leading to a low 20-yard shot that the keeper saved. Just a few minutes later, a long pass found Ruben, whose dribble into the box resulted in a shot that the keeper parried. As the ball was cleared, Mo unleashed a 35-yard effort that soared into the night sky—a true firework moment.
FCP 0-1 Biggleswade United
A long goal kick into FCP’s half led to a contested challenge in mid-air, but despite a foul on Alieu, the referee allowed play to continue. Biggleswade capitalised, sending a high ball forward that their striker latched onto. Although Niall managed to cover the initial danger, the ball was lost near the goal line, and a simple pass set up a side-footed finish into the far corner, putting FCP behind.
Dominating but Struggling to Convert
Despite going down, FCP pressed on, with Derick’s header, Vitor’s long shot, and Ayman’s blocked attempt all coming close. In the 40th minute, Ruben’s through pass to Vitor resulted in a tight-angle shot that went wide, with Micky and Derick unmarked at the far post as perhaps the better options.
Half-Time: FCP 0-1 Biggleswade United
Despite trailing, FCP was creating numerous chances, and their spirited play kept the fans hopeful. Biggleswade gave away several free kicks in their own half, and Ruben almost equalised with a close-range shot, only for the keeper to make another body block.
FCP 1-1 Biggleswade United
The second half started just as intensely as the first. In the 55th minute, Vitor controlled a header from defence and quickly set up Derick, who won a penalty after being fouled in the box. Though the keeper got a hand on Vitor’s powerful shot, he couldn’t stop it. FCP was back level, and the Green Army erupted.
Taking Charge
With renewed energy, FCP continued to dominate. Vitor seemed unstoppable, weaving through five defenders before being halted at the last moment. Biggleswade kept looking for their forward with high balls, but FCP’s control and composure kept them in charge.

In the 74th minute, Zahid’s throw-in led to a quick exchange with Vitor, who passed to Micky under pressure. Micky laid it off to Ayman, who coolly passed across goal for super-sub Atif to slot in his signature finish. The stadium’s atmosphere reached a fever pitch as FCP took the lead, with the Green Army roaring them on.
Referee Controversy
The game’s closing minutes weren’t without drama. An opposition shot went over, but confusion arose as the assistant referee flagged for offside, while the referee awarded Biggleswade a free kick. In the tenth minute of added time, Biggleswade found the net, but it was disallowed due to multiple players being offside. The decision stood, and FCP fans breathed a sigh of relief.
The Triumph
It was a performance that showcased teamwork and individual brilliance. Vitor, Ayman, Ruben, and Atif looked dangerous each time they had the ball, with Derick and Micky finding space and the defence holding firm. The Green Army’s support and the team’s resilience carried FCP over the line.
Post-match, Biggleswade graciously stayed for a meal despite the intensity and their frustration over the disallowed goal. Credit to them—a great team with admirable sportsmanship. For FCP, this victory was a bright moment, especially after the weekend’s disappointing draw. Well done, FCP, and great to see Ryan back in the dugout!
