Chips, Drama and Missed Chances

Chips, Drama and Missed Chances

Holbeach United 2-2 FC Peterborough

The Green Army made the short journey to Holbeach looking for revenge after a disappointing home defeat earlier in the season. While we didn’t come away with all three points, the match was anything but uneventful!

Goal 1-0
FCP started positively, taking an early lead through Niall from a corner. Unfortunately, the finer details of the goal are hard to recall (a morning spent following all things FC Peterborough left me starving, and the Holbeach chips were simply too good to ignore, 10 out of 10 for the chips, the only positive to come out of Holbeach!)

Goal 1-1
Holbeach equalised after some sloppy defending that should have been cleared. Sarunas will be disappointed when he watches it back.

Goal 2-1
Vito reminded everyone why he’s so highly rated, he unleashed a brilliant strike into the back of the net. A moment of sheer quality to restore our lead before half-time.

Half-Time
FC Peterborough went into the break 2-1 up. The first half hadn’t produced many chances for either side, but FCP would have been pleased with their control of the game and the lead.

Goal 2-2
The second half didn’t see much action until the closing stages, when Holbeach found an equaliser. A simple through ball caught the FCP defence napping, leaving the Green Army frustrated.

Penalty to Holbeach
As the game approached its conclusion, Holbeach were awarded a penalty. Just when it looked like the hosts might snatch all three points, Superman Sarunas produced a stunning save to deny them. A massive moment for the Green Army!

Penalty to FCP
In a dramatic twist, FCP were awarded a penalty moments later. With the chance to steal the win, debutant Tiago stepped up. After a long delay, his effort hit the post, and the score remained 2-2. What a moment that could have been!

Full-Time: 2-2
A point apiece felt like a fair result. Neither side really did enough to claim the win, and both will feel disappointed after missing their late penalties. FCP remain just outside the play-off spots but will feel this was an opportunity missed.

While the match was full of drama, the experience off the pitch at Holbeach left much to be desired. From the constant screeching and moaning in the stands to outright abuse directed at FCP players and fans, the Holbeach supporters lived up to their reputation as the worst in the league. To top it off, a jobsworth steward decided to hassle Jamal, our videographer, mid-match.

It might have been our shortest away trip of the season, but we’re glad we won’t have to return again anytime soon!

Green Army MOTM: Zahid
Caption Zahid at his best, dominating the left, quality passed throughout the game, and getting an opportunity to play in his favoured midfield position towards the end of the game.
